The fight is not over, says Noor
Geylang International head coach Noor Ali wants his team to finish the Singapore Premier League season on a high note despite falling short of their top-three ambition.
For Noor, the remaining two matches will still be as important as The Eagles seek to improve on their sixth-place finish last season.
Noor also believes a strong finish to the league campaign will help them enter the Singapore Cup with the right mindset and renewed optimism.
Geylang International will take on Balestier Khalsa on Friday at Toa Payoh Stadium and Noor has tasked his charges to step up their efforts to get the team back on a winning trail after claiming only two points from a possible nine, including a 3-3 draw against Tanjong Pagar last Sunday.
Geylang have amassed 35 points from 26 matches, comprising nine victories, eight draws and nine defeats.
They are ranked fifth with two to play ahead of their clash against seventh-placed Tigers.
“With six points still up for grabs, there’s still everything to play for,” said Noor.
“Our AFC Cup ambition may have been over, but that doesn’t mean we have nothing to fight for.
“Our goal is to finish as strong as possible, finishing inside the top half of the table will still be commendable.
“I have made it clear to all the boys about the importance of the last two games.
“The Singapore Cup will commence the very next week after our final match of the season, so it’s imperative that we secure some positive results to generate good momentum for the next competition.”
Geylang will be aiming to make it three wins on the trot against Balestier having last beaten them 3-0 at home in August.
