Eagles soar into fourth place after taking down Young Lions 3-0
Geylang International moved inside the top-four of the AIA Singapore Premier League table with a resounding 3-0 win over Young Lions at a rain-soaked Our Tampines Hub (OTH) on Saturday.
With six games remaining, the Eagles now trail third-placed Tampines Rovers by one point, having played one game more than their derby rivals.
Kick-off was delayed by close to 90mins due to inclement weather. After a cagey first 30 mins, the Eagles broke the deadlock with Joshua Pereira scoring his first goal of the season off a header from a cross by Ilhan Noor.
Sime Zuzul then doubled Geylang International’s advantage almost immediately after the restart when he latched onto Huzaifah Aziz’s through ball before calmly slotting the ball into the back of the net for his 15th goal of the season.
It got better not only for the Eagles but also for the Croatian when Zuzul got onto the score sheet again 15 minutes later with another precise finish which found the bottom right corner in the 61st minute.
Geylang International Head Coach Noor Ali paid tribute to his charges for another victory which has propelled them up the league table.
“The boys have been fantastic this evening. The rainy conditions were challenging, but they showed lots of character in fighting so hard for yet another three points.
“We must keep this momentum and continue our battle to finish this season strongly.”
Ends.
