Zaiful keeps the faith
Geylang International skipper Zaiful Nizam is calling on teammates to keep believing and stick together despite the difficult situation the team are currently facing.
The Eagles are mired in a 11-game winless streak that included seven defeats, leaving them in seventh in the eight-team AIA Singapore Premier League standings.
After squandering a two-goal lead and being forced to settle for a 2-2 draw by Young Lions last Tuesday, Geylang International will seek to pull out their nosedive when they host Tanjong Pagar at Our Tampines Hub (OTH) on Sunday.
Ahead of the battle, Zaiful has expressed confidence that it will not be too long before the team sees the light at the end of the tunnel and justifies the fans’ faith and unwavering support.
“Never came across with so much positive from the team and the results still don’t tele with the worked our team has put in,” Zaiful posted on his Instagram account.
“The rainy days will be gone soon.
“Belief and trust are what we need as a team and not forgetting the fans who never give up with big heart coming over week in and week out just to support the team.”
Forward Hazzuwan Halim echoed Zaiful’s sentiment, saying that the fans deserve something more and assured that he and the rest in the team will continue to knock on the door for the win.
“It’s hard to swallow yesterday’s result (2-2 draw with Young Lions) and very disappointed not to collect the three points. We will keep fighting, stick together and work even harder,” said Hazzuwan.
“We players would like to thank all the fans for coming down and keep supporting us even if we win, lose or draw!”
Geylang will welcome midfielder Huzaifah Aziz back to the team following a one-match ban as they face a tricky encounter against Tanjong Pagar, who are unbeaten in their last four matches.
However, it’s also worth noting that Tanjong Pagar have not managed to win in their last three away matches.
