New signing Tajeli vows to get Eagles soaring again
Geylang International’s Tajeli Salamat has promised to do everything he can to help turn things around for the Eagles, starting with a positive result against Tampines Rovers at Our Tampines Hub (OTH) on Saturday.
The right-back, who is on loan from Lion City Sailors until the end of the season, knows it is crucial for the club to get back to their winning ways and is determined to do his part.
“I’m happy to be here, and I will give everything I’ve got to help the club turn the tide and move up in the league standings,” said Tajeli.
“I’ve seen some of the good results and performances by the team, and I’m sure the team are more than capable of achieving their cause.”
Head Coach Noor Ali has also called for a stronger and more passionate response from his side ahead of Saturday’s Eastern Derby clash.
The Eagles were hammered 8-2 by Albirex Niigata three weeks ago to mark their heaviest defeat of their Singapore Premier League campaign and extended their winless streak to nine matches.
With just six points to show from 10 matches, sitting seventh in the eight-team standings, Noor admits the team must raise their standards to make a push to finish the season within a respectable position.
The three-week international break could not have come at a better time as it allowed Noor to revitalise the squad.
“Picking ourselves up following such blow is not the easiest thing to do, but that is part and parcel of our job,” said Noor.
“We have many games coming up, starting with this weekend’s derby against Tampines. All eyes will be on us to see how we react, so we must step up and be better against Tampines.”
“If we are going to finish higher than where we are presently, the team need to get stronger and more passionate.”
Tampines, too, will have plenty to prove after losing two of their last games and conceding eight goals in the process.
The Stags first suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of leaders Lion City Sailors before going down again 4-2 to Tanjong Pagar.
