Eagles hope to turn the corner against the Cheetahs

Geylang International will be hoping to return to their winning ways when they travel to Hougang Stadium to take on Hougang United on Friday evening.

After taking maximum points with matching 3-1 victories over Balestier Khalsa and Tanjong Pagar since the Singapore Premier League resumed from the international break last month, the Eagles lost ground in the league table, falling to a 4-2 defeat against the Jaguars last Sunday.

The Eagles will be up against a wounded Hougang United, determined to bounce back too after they lost 4-1 to league leader, Albirex Niigata last week. Hougang United’s dangerman Tomoyuki Doi, who has already scored 16 goals this season, will be closely watched by captain Yuki Ichikawa as he is expected to marshal the defensive back-line again.

Looking ahead to the clash with Hougang United, Head Coach Noor Ali is backing his charges to respond strongly when they meet again for the third time this season.

“We were disappointed with our loss against Tanjong Pagar on Sunday. But it’s a new week and we can only look forward to our next match by staying positive and focused.

The boys have been giving their 100% during training and I’m pleased to see them working hard as a team. It’s going to be a tough game against Hougang but we are ready for it,” said Noor.

“Amy Recha has proven he can be counted upon to deliver the goods upfront alongside Matheus Moresche and the attacking threat could be deadly upfront when the duo plays true to form,” added Noor.
