Teng steps down as advisor as elected committee takes helm
Geylang International Football Club’s (GIFC) Ben Teng will step down as the club’s advisor to focus on his newly elected role as the Vice-President of the Football Association of Singapore (FAS).
During his tenure at GIFC, Teng oversaw the revamp of the club’s commercial structure, putting in place several sound business and operations strategies to ensure the sustainability of the club.
Under Teng’s stewardship, EPSON, which shares the club’s philosophy of supporting the community through football, extended its association with the club by being its platinum sponsor for the sixth consecutive year in 2021.
Teng also had an eye on youth development and played a pivotal role in signing a three-year collaboration with Active SG where both parties jointly organised the annual EPSON youth challenge- a national-level youth football competition.
In his efforts to broaden the global perspective of the club’s coaching team, Teng established an exchange program with Matsumoto Yamaga Football Club where GIFC’s Head Coach Noor Ali spent one year understanding the Japanese club’s football system and youth development setup.
“It has been my privilege to serve as the chairman and advisor for Geylang International the last six years. I’ll continue to support the club in my own ways whenever I can as it will always hold a special place in my heart.
“I would also like to thank the Ultra Eagles for their unwavering support of the club through the good and bad times. Geylang boleh!” said Teng.
Geylang International’s chairman Thomas Gay said: “Thank you, Ben for being our guiding light and a great teammate and friend. Your leadership and dedication to the club have been integral to our continued success and you’ll never be forgotten. Looking ahead, we’ll continue to battle for pride and honours both on and off the pitch and together with our fans, we’ll realise the club’s vision of being one of the best football clubs in the region.”
Teng will hand over the reins of the advisor’s role to Mohd Fahmi Bin Aliman, Member of Parliament for Marine Parade GRC and Mayor of South East District.
The club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held virtually over Zoom on Friday, May 28 at 3.30pm and saw the following elected into the committee for the new term.
