Eagles suffer third straight loss with 3-2 defeat to the Jaguars

Head Coach Noor Ali admitted that Geylang International had a ‘disappointing night’ after losing 3-2 to Tanjong Pagar at Our Tampines Hub (OTH) on Sunday. However, he believes that the Eagles have the capability to turn things around.

Geylang International faced a significant challenge with three first-half goals from Khairul Amri Kamal (10′), Mirko Sugic (45+1′), and Marin Mudrazija (45+3′).

Despite a spirited second-half performance, the home team couldn’t recover from the deficit and suffered their third consecutive defeat.

The match at OTH provided an entertaining spectacle for neutral fans, with Vincent Bezecourt’s thunderbolt goal just before halftime adding to the excitement.

Geylang International’s relentless pursuit for a second goal paid off in the 72nd minute when Delwinder Singh scored by beating two defenders and smashing the ball into the net.

In the 89th minute, Gareth Low’s low left-foot drive beat keeper Kenji Syed Rusydi but was ruled offside by the referee, denying the Eagles of their equaliser.

With 22 shots compared to Tanjong Pagar’s nine, Geylang International may feel that they deserved more from the match.

A disappointed Noor said, “I would say we gave the game to them. We were the much better team throughout the whole game. Of course, they scored three goals in the first half, but we were responsible for all three goals. The third goal was the killer.”

Noor acknowledged the challenge of making changes due to Rio Sakuma’s injury during the warm-up session but praised the efforts of the young Akmal, who competed well against Mirko Sugic.

He emphasised Geylang International’s dominance in the second half, with the team having the majority of possession while their opponents defended deeply.

Despite the disappointment of three consecutive defeats, Noor expressed optimism and highlighted the positive aspects of their second-half performance.

“We showed we can still play decent football. But we have to be clinical and take our chances. It has to be an all-rounded performance. We cannot be scoring goals and conceding them as well. Now’s the time to move forward and focus on securing all three points in the next match against the Young Lions.”
