Zuzul ready to strike again
Croatian hotshot Sime Zuzul has vowed to keep the goals flowing to help Geylang International extend their unbeaten run in the AIA Singapore Premier League when they travel away to face third-placed Tanjong Pagar United on Saturday.
The Eagles have yet to lose in the last six matches that included four victories, and they will be eager to record their second straight win against the Jaguars after beating them 1-0 at home last month.
A positive result against Tanjong Pagar will strengthen the Eagles’ chances of breaking into the top-three bracket. It would also reduce the former’s advantage to just six points.
Geylang International, bolstered by their morale-boosting 2-1 win at Hougang United last week, are currently in sixth spot with 20 points.
Zuzul, fresh from scoring the crucial late winner last week – his ninth of the season, has pledged to continue getting his name on the scoresheet for the rest of the season.
The Croatian, who has scored 30 league goals throughout his three seasons with Balestier Khalsa from 2019 to 2021, believes he has what it takes to surpass the 15-goal tally he recorded last season whilst helping the Eagles with their quest.
“There are still many matches left to be played, so if I can stay fit and go forward like that for the rest of the season, hopefully, I’ll be able to go beyond 15,” said Zuzul, who’s fifth in the SPL’s top scorers’ standings.
“But again, it doesn’t matter who scores the goals as long as we keep collecting maximum points.
“Ideally, all in the team should be scoring because the more goals we get, we increase our chances of winning matches.
“With the team brimming with confidence now, the sky’s the limit for us. We have a crucial match against Tanjong Pagar this weekend, hopefully, we can secure another win. “There’s a good chance for us to close in on the third spot. If we are to have a chance of qualifying for AFC competition next season, we cannot afford to let slip too many points away.”
