Eagles eye game-changer against Young Lions

Despite the continuous struggle, Geylang International Head Coach Noor Ali insists his beleaguered side will keep their heads up and continue their relentless pursuit for the “one game-changing win” that he believes would charge the team back into life.

Still unable to secure a win after 10 matches in the AIA Singapore Premier League, The Eagles have their work cut out when they host Young Lions at Our Tampines Hub (OTH) on Tuesday.

Geylang will return to action on the back of a 2-0 loss against Tampines in last Saturday’s Eastern Derby clash, their seventh defeat of the season.

Ahead of the crunch fixture, Noor has called on his players to start converting their chances into goals and secure the much-needed three points for the team.

Noor’s sentiment about his team being wasteful with the scoring chances was understandable, especially after seeing his charges fail to win last Saturday despite having 16 attempts recorded with eight on target.

“I don’t think there’s anything more we can do apart from putting the ball in the net,” said Noor.

“In the recent games, we have created more than enough chances to score, and it’s just that we could not convert them.

“The team need to build the confidence in front of goal, and that can only be done through turning as many scoring opportunities into goals.

“Still, I cannot fault my boys as they have been giving their 100%, although the squad only have 12 to 13 players fully fit players.

“We will continue to stay positive, and the only thing we’re aiming for now is to get that long-awaited win. Hopefully, it will come soon. If we can do that, it will give the entire team confidence and morale a whole world of good.”

Noor believes new signing Tajeli Salamat will eventually gel quickly with the team in the next couple of weeks.

“I’m definitely happy with his performance, but he’s lacking match fitness,” said Noor of the former Lion City Sailors right-back.

“He just joined us about two weeks ago, and before that, he had a one-month break, so let’s give him some time.

“But his presence certainly provided us with the ability and quality on the right flank.”
