Noor demands clinical finishing

Geylang International Head Coach Noor Ali has admitted that the team will need to be more clinical in front of goal if they are to get back to winning ways and move up the AIA Singapore Premier League standings.

The Eagles, who will play Albirex Niigata away from home on Friday, are currently placed seventh, three points ahead of Young Lions, with the latter having two games in hand.

There is certainly an urgent need for Noor’s charges to start scoring more points as they could only pick up just three from a possible 24 since pulling off a sensational 1-0 win over Lion City Sailors in the season-opener.

Geylang International were finally able to snap a string of three defeats with a 0-0 draw with Hougang at home last Sunday, but Noor believes his side deserved a lot better with that kind of performance.

They have shown improvement since the start of the second round. In their gutsy 1-0 loss to Lion City Sailors, the reigning league champions, the Eagles did well in attack as they managed 11 attempts at goal with two on target.

They then underlined their statement further against the Cheetahs by recording five shots on target through their 14 attempts.

But these stats would mean nothing unless they count for goals.

“Draws are not enough, and they won’t bring us to where we want to be. We need to start winning matches and get the three points in,” stressed Noor.

“The last two matches showed that we’re more than capable of competing and taking the game to our opponents.  “I thought we have been unfortunate not to win, but the team has been performing much better. We just need to be more lethal, clinical and get the much-needed goals.”
