Tigers claw to victory over Eagles

The waterlogged pitch was the ’12 player’ for Balestier as the home team took advantage of the wet conditions to out manouver visitors Geylang.
Both teams were evenly matched in the first 20 mins of the game but the Geylang Eagles seemed to have suffered from wet feathers and somehow couldn’t connect their passes.
Then in the 22nd minute Balestier’s Ruhaizad Ismail capitalised on a mistake by Geylang keeper Takuma Ito to put the home team ahead.
In the 60th min Geylang’s skipper Jozef Kaplan just missed levelling the score for his team. Kaplan’s shot caught Balestier’s keeper Zakariah Nerani off his line – but the ball went out of play.
The game took on a different kind of spark in the 69th minute – when tempers began to flare. Refree Abdul Malik Bashir sent off Geylang’s number 8, Jalal and Balestier’s number 12, Zulkifli Hassim for an altercation.
Geylang then began to control of the game. Unfortunately the Eagles’ tenacity to win every loose ball was still not translated into any advantage. Instead in the 89th minute the refree carded Geylang veteran Fabian Kwok when he brought down a Balestier player just outside the penalty box.
The match ended with Balestier Khalsa taking the three points, while Geylang went home empty-handed for a second time within the week after they lost to Tampines Rovers.
Its okay, we’ll do better the against the Young Tigers!
