He watched on from the side-lines, wanting desperately to be involved in action for the Eagles. Although Siddiq Durimi had featured in the Geylang International side as an outfield player earlier in the season, he made his first start between the sticks for Jorg Steinebrunner in the Eagles’ 5-1 win over Woodlands Wellington in the preliminary round Singapore Cup tie.
Speaking to EAGLES TV post match, he said: “I was waiting for this moment, for the chance to show what I have.” A thumping win was a result that pleased Siddiq, who was unfortunate to concede through a penalty on the night. He continued: “It was great, everything went right for me.”
Siddiq Durmi, was also celebrating his 26th birthday on the day and it is fair to say the custodian enjoyed the treat of a goals galore from his teammates. He said: “It was a really good game. But I didn’t expect it was going to be 5-1.”
When asked on his birthday wish, Siddiq was direct with his response. With hope in his eyes, he revealed: “I want the Eagles to go to the AFC (Cup) next year, that’s all I’m asking for.”
With performances like the one against the Rams, the Eagles are on track to turn Siddiq’s wish into a reality.
