Siddiq Durimi continues inspiring form

Often left on the bench as a second fiddle to Joey Sim, frustration was the best word to describe Siddiq Durimi’s season with the Eagles. But after an excellent performance against Woodlands Wellington in the RHB Singapore Cup, Eagles head coach Jorg Steinebrunner stuck with Siddiq Durimi and the goalkeeper responded with another magnificent display to help the Eagles to a win against the Stags.
The Geylang custodian, who is able to play in outfield positions, was pleased with the effort from his team and was also thankful for the gaffe from the opposition goalkeeper. He said: “It was good that the team didn’t give up and we were lucky that the keeper fumbled.”
When asked to describe how he felt after making some great saves, especially the double save to thwart Noh Alam Shah, Siddiq was calm in his reply. He said: “For me, it is just my job and I gave everything I had and again it was my day.” He also added that being a goalkeeper meant he had to take the lead at back. He continued: “I just tried to go for every ball I could.”
When posed with the question of whether he will have a continued run in the team, Siddiq responded: “If I perform then I will play. If Joey performs then he will play. For the team, we just do our best. “
