With head coach Jorg Steinebrunner having to watch the match from the stands as a result of a red card the German received during the match against Tampines Rovers, touchline duties on the night went to assistant coach Nazareno Velez.
With Geylang International trying to find a way past the resilient Courts Young Lions all night, Nazareno Velez was vocal on the touchline barking instructions at players and motivating them to not give up till the final whistle.
Speaking to EAGLES TV post match was the Argentinian coach. He felt the Eagles threw everything they had at the Young Lions. He said: “I think we tried everything especially during the second half in the last 20 or 25 minutes.”
Nazareno also felt that playing Young Lions so soon after a match with Tampines Rovers took a toll on the squad. He said: “I think the players feel very tired because we had two games in 48 hours. The game on Friday (against Tampines Rovers) was very intense and we played with high intensity so it would have been better if we had been more rested.”
Coach Naza also was critical of the team’s failure to convert chances from the wings. He said: “We should be were more clinical from crosses, we had so many crosses but nobody finished it.”
