Match Preview: Tanjong Pagar United vs Geylang International FC
By Eagles Admin on 25 August 2014
Geylang International will be looking to make it two wins in the space of three days as they travel to the Queenstown Stadium to face Tanjong Pagar United.
The Eagles started the run of three games in six days with a stellar performance, emerging with a 2-0 victory over Woodlands Wellington. The result meant that Geylang had only lost one out of their last five matches, with the solitary defeat coming against Balestier Khalsa in a match which finished 2-1.
The Jaguars, meanwhile, come into the match off the back of a morale boosting 1-0 win over defending champions, Tampines Rovers.
With only two points separating the Eagles and the Jaguars on the table, both sides will be looking for a win.
But the Jaguars’ cause will not be helped by the suspension to key players, Monsef Zerka and Ramdani Kamel. The likes of Fabian Kwok and Franco Chivilo will have to be on guard, however, to stifle influential midfielder Sebastien Etiemble.
Argentinian midfielder Franco Chivilo turned in a brilliant performance last time out against Woodlands Wellington and he will look to build on it against the Jaguars. His passes could be key to unlock a mean Tanjong Pagar defence.
Franco Chivilo will look to build on an impressive performance last time out.
Motivation will be high in the Eagles camp, as head coach Jorg Steinebrunner has drilled in the side’s aim for the rest of the season. He said: “We have a responsibility to our fans, to the club and to the S-League to play every game till the end. If we can catch Balestier then so be it. We are going to keep trying and we want to finish as high as possible.”
