Match Preview: Hougang United vs Geylang International
By Eagles Admin on 29 October 2013
The last time this season Geylang International went into a match on a streak of 2 wins in a row was in May. That time the Eagles met eventual league champs Tampines Rovers and lost 1-0 at Clementi after beating Tanjong Pagar United and Courts Young Lions prior.
This time round, the Eagles will travel to Hougang Stadium and to a Cheetahs team who will be eager to do what the Eagles did just last week; win their last “Home” game of the season.
Hougang United may have been blowing hot and cold all season but they can spring a sudden surprise and catch the unwary hunter. The fact that they have been beaten by the Eagles all three times we have met so far will not be lost on them. A backlash of the most catty nature is definitely on the cards tonight.
Hougang’s caretaker coach Amin Nasir will have a pleasant headache tonight as he ponders his attacking line-up. Basit Hamid was exceptional when he came on in their last game, scoring almost immediately and added another goal later on to cap off his performance.
The Eagles will definitely be in for a midfield battle up against the likes of Thomas Beattie, Azhar Sairuddin and Jerome Baker.
Hougang United’s engine room though, may be pushed to its limit by the infiltration squadron of Captain Jozef Kaplan, Stefan Milojevic, Yasir Hanapi and veteran Noor Ali.
In defence, the “Double-W Brothers”, Wahyudi Wahid and Wyldan Wisam, have impressed with solid and matured performances and the Cheetahs will struggle to penetrate with the dependable Norihiro Kawakami backing them up.
Captain Jozef Kaplan will be looking to surge ahead in the race for the S-League top-scorer award, currently sharing top position with three others at 13 goals each.
The Eagles may have had a rocky start to the season and have dropped points along the way but Coach V Kanan will be reminding his lads that they have always brought back full points against the Cheetahs all season.
Hougang Stadium may be an intimidating venue but Geylang International is currently unbeaten in all our Tier 2 fixtures and hence, will be the bigger factor in the intimidation equation tonight.
Come on Eagles!!
