Match Preview: Hougang United FC vs Geylang International FC
By Eagles Admin on 10 July 2013
A rather unfortunate 2-1 loss at Bishan Stadium last week saw Geylang International FC’s unbeaten streak come to a halt and extended Home United’s unbeaten run against the Eagles since 2009.
Hougang United also lost their away fixture at the same time to Tanjong Pagar Utd by a solitary Monsef Zerka goal.
The Eagles now travel slightly north to Hougang Stadium tomorrow to face the Cheetahs in an encounter where both sides will want to recover from their respective losses.
Geylang International FC currently sits in 9th position, one above the Cheetahs but with a game in hand. Having already met twice with the Eagles winning both encounters 2-0 and 2-1 respectively, both times at Bedok Stadium ,once for the first round of the league and the other time for a Starhub League Cup group game, the Cheetahs finally get to clash with the Eagles on home-soil.
Hougang United will most likely still be feeling the agony of being knocked out of the Starhub League Cup by the Eagles and will want to set that record straight.
An already impressive looking Igor Cerina will be marshalling their defence this time round and the Cheetahs will be banking on him to keep out the likes of Captain Jozef Kaplan, Wahyudi Wahid and Yasir Hanapi from breaching their defenses.
This will also be Johana Johari’s first game as confirmed Head Coach of the Cheetahs and the wily tactician will be desperate to anoint his appointment with a victory over a much improving Eagles side.
Geylang International will be looking to spoil Johana’s moment for him though as our form over the last seven games have definitely established the Eagles as a hard team to beat. Captain Jozef is now joint top scorer of the league alongside Monsef Zerka (TPUFC) and Kazuki Sakamoto (ANFCS) with 9 goals to his tally.
The Eagles fought bravely to the end in their last match against a very good Protectors’ side and will surely carry this newfound tenacity into every game.
It may be a home game for the Cheetahs but the Eagles will surely relish the challenge and with past encounters counting against Hougang United, the pressure this time will not be on the us.
Fans can expect this game to be a tight affair and there is definitely no love lost between the two sides. Igor Cerina or not, the Eagles will once again come into this game in the only way the Eagles know how.
Fearsome and fearless.
Bring on the Cheetahs!
