Match Preview: Geylang International vs Home United
By Andrew Ang on 22 May 2014
Two defeats in a row have left the Eagles feeling that their seven match unbeaten run was ages ago. On Thursday, Geylang International will be looking to avoid a third straight defeat as they entertain one of the title contenders, Home United FC.
After enjoying a marvellous run of unbeaten games under new head coach Jorg Steinebrunner, the Eagles have since fallen to Albirex Niigata 4-2 and a narrow 1-0 defeat to Warriors FC. Home United on the other hand, have drawn their last two games with the pick of their stalemates being their last outing. Winning 2-1, the Protectors conceded a penalty in injury time as they were forced into a draw.
Despite their two consecutive defeats, the Eagles have put up good performances, with individual errors being their undoing in the matches. Eagles head coach pointed that out as he spoke to EAGLES TV during the week. He said: “Looking at our performances in the defeat, we were not second best in both games.” The German also called on his charges to replicate their efforts. He continued: “We need to continue our good habits. We have been performing well but have not got anything to show for from the last two matches but things will turn around.”
Geylang International are expected to have a fully fit squad to choose from and will be eager to welcome the return of Mustaqim Manzur from suspension. The midfielder had been one of the form players for the Eagles before his unfortunate sending off that ruled him out of the last game.
As the Protectors travel to the Bedok Stadium, the Eagles will be hoping to get one over the side that defeated them 4-1 earlier in the season. Jorg also gave special mention to Home United’s attack. He said: In Indra Shahdan, Fazrul Nawaz and Lee Kwan Woo, they have experience as well as good attacking ability, so we have to be careful.”
Two sides with attackers that other sides in the league would love to have in their ranks can only give rise to the anticipation of supporters at Bedok Stadium as a flurry of goals and goalmouth action await those in attendance on Thursday.
