MATCH PREVIEW: Geylang International FC vs Woodlands Wellington FC
By Eagles Admin on 16 June 2013
Like a maddened bull standing between the matador and his road to fame and glory, Woodlands Wellington FC come tonight to Bedok Stadium in a bid to block Geylang International’s road to the Starhub League Cup fame and glory.
Just slightly over a fortnight ago, the Eagles had triumphed over at Woodlands Stadium as they put the Rams to the slaughter with a 4-1 scoreline in the Singapore Cup First Round but tonight will present itself a new set of difficulties for us.
The hard fought victory against Hougang United last Tuesday evening will be taking its toll tonight; Coach V Kanan will not be at the sidelines due to suspension along with Fabian Kwok and Yasir Hanapi (picture) while Delwinder Singh and Stefan Milojevic are still out injured.
The Northern Rams, meanwhile, will still be smarting from the humiliation of the home defeat we inflicted upon them and are likely to attack aggressively from the start. They come to the Starhub League Cup Quarter-Finals from the only group in the competition that comprised of four teams. They struggled to beat NFL side Admiralty FC and could only record a 1-0 victory over the Harimau Muda B team before capitulating again at the hands of Home Utd.
Three of their players, former captain Yazid Yasin, Ang Zhi Wei & Shahril Alias, will be making a return to Bedok Stadium for the first time this season, having left the Eagles at the end of last season but they can still hope for an affectionate reception as Eagles fans are known for their warm-heartedness. As usual though, they may get some love from the stands but can expect none on the field.
Geylang International FC have not lost to Woodlands Wellington FC so far this year and we will be hoping to maintain that record, especially in the quarter-finals of the Starhub League Cup and in front of our beloved home crowd.
