Match Preview: Geylang International FC vs Brunei DPMM FC

Yasir Hanapi needs to be at his best against Brunei DPMM.
DPMM FC turns up this time round to duel with a reasonably soaring Eagles side at Jalan Besar Stadium come Friday evening.
Previously claiming 7th spot, Geylang International dropped to 8th in the table after Harimau Muda B was given three points for their game against Tampines Rovers FC after the latter was penalised for fielding an ineligible player.
The Eagles, though, still have a game in hand having only played 16 games so far as compared to the 17 games already played by both DPMM FC and Harimau Muda B.
DPMM FC will surely be looking at this tie as a means to get back to winning ways after only managing to get a single point in their last three league games which also includes the 5-2 hiding handed to them by Woodlands Wellington FC.
Rather worrying for Geylang International though is not the opponent’s reputation nor the result of the previous meeting over at Brunei but the absence of talismanic Captain Jozef Kaplan and Khayrulhayat Jumat through suspensions.
Already missing Fabian “Robo” Kwok to an ACL injury which will see him out for the rest of the season, another defensive backbone joins the injury list; Delwinder Singh will be out for at least a month for a strained knee ligament and torn cartilage.
It will be up to the likes of Yasir Hanapi, who managed to net a goal in Brunei, and the other seniors to rally the team in this time of struggle. Players like Shotaro Ihata, who is slowly but surely regaining his sharpness, will also be crucial to the frontline’s tenacity in battle.
Coach V Kanan will also be assessing Stefan Milojevic’s overall fitness and decide if it is finally time for Stefan to make his long awaited return to the S-League and for the Eagles. Coach Kanan’s counterpart, Vjeran Simunic, will also be able to assess the coming game from the stands, after getting sent off in their last game.
Expect a tussle of royal proportions at Jalan Besar Stadium as the Royal Prince’s men seek to down the majestic Eagles, who will face this challenge in the only way Eagles know how ;
Unafraid and unmoved.
Bring it on!
