Match Preview: Courts Young Lions vs Geylang International
By Eagles Admin on 25 October 2014
It has been a happy hunting ground for them this season and it is only right that the Eagles will close out their season at the Jalan Besar Stadium when they face Courts Young Lions in the last match of their 2014 S-League campaign.
Due to maintenance works being carried out at the Bedok Stadium, Geylang International were forced to play their home games on the artificial turf of Jalan Besar. A change which proved to be to their advantage, as they went on a seven match unbeaten run at the arena before falling to Brunei DPMM on penalties, in the Singapore League Cup semi-final.
The Eagles come into the match, on the back of a disastrous result which was accompanied by a equally horrendous performance. Looking devoid of any focus and energy, Geylang fell to a more eager Hougang United side, 4-0.
But as the Eagles look to build for the next campaign, the incentive will be to kick start their preparations with a win and raise the expectations of fans for next season’s league challenge.
Yuki Ichikawa and Kento Fukuda are expected to form the central defensive pair allowing Fabian Kwok to assume his usual centre midfield role.
Aliff Shafaein is also expected to feature after doing well in his cameo appearance last time out.
The Courts Young Lions meanwhile are enjoying a good run, helped by two consecutive victories. With the late additions of Faris Ramli, Shakir Hamzah and Shahfiq Ghani into the squad, the young side have more than enough talent in their ranks to trouble the experienced Eagles backline.
Most notably, Faris Ramli enjoyed a night to remember last time out as he dazzled on the flanks while helping his team to a 2-1 victory over Woodlands Wellington.
The season may not have been one to remember for the Eagles and the faithful fans but a football fiesta awaits when Geylang International take on Courts Young Lions on Saturday as both teams look to end with a bang.
