Match Preview: Balestier Khalsa vs Geylang International
By Andrew Ang on 16 April 2014
It will be another stern test for Jorg Steinebrunner’s rejuvenated Eagles side as Geylang International travel to the Toa Payoh Stadium on Thursday to face Balestier Khalsa FC in the eighth round of the 2014 S.League campaign.
Geylang International are unbeaten in their last four matches and will be looking to make it five against a Balestier Khalsa side which look devoid of any form at the moment. Last time out, the Eagles mustered a spirited fight back from two goals down to beat Hougang United 3-2 and a repeat of the fighting spirit would be needed at the Toa Payoh Stadium.
The Tigers have not won in any of their last four matches and their poor run has been largely attributed to the absence of playmaker Park Kang-Jin. The Korean is likely to miss out against the Eagles.
The Eagles are likely to name an unchanged line-up from the previous match. Fabian Kwok, Muhammad Ridhuan and Leonel Felice will look to continue their impressive form against the Tigers while Kento Fukuda and Joaquin Lopez will also need to be in the best of forms to keep an eye on Balestier frontman Goran Ljubojevic. The marquee signing has already netted six times this season and will prove to be a threat on the night.
The Eagles’ head coach will also be looking to spur his team to victory to put one over his counterpart, Balestier Khalsa team manager, R Vengadasalam. The latter, had infamously told Red Card TV that “Jorg will fail” when Jorg Steinebrunner took over the managerial hot seat at the club.
Personal battles on and off the field make this clash one to savour as Geylang International lock horns with Balestier Khalsa at the Toa Payoh Stadium. Be there to cheer the Eagles on as they look to make it five consecutive games unbeaten in the league.
