Jorg Steinebrunner: We were the better team

They bowed out of the Starhub League Cup in the semi-final but judging by head coach Jorg Steinebrunner’s comments after the game, the Eagles had done it whilst gaining the admiration and respect of those connected with the club.
After 120 minutes of goalless action in the semi-final clash with Brunei DPMM, the match went on to a penalty shoot-out. Unfortunately, the Eagles failed to net their first three penalties and Brunei went on to seal a 3-0 victory via the spot kicks.
Speaking to Eagles TV after the match, Eagles’ head coach was full of praise for his side. “First of all, we should be all very proud of the boys for what they have achieved and done in the league cup. Everyone connected to Geylang would be proud.” he said.
The German also felt that his charges did more than just go toe to toe with the league leaders. Summing up the match, he said: “Today, we were on many occasions at least on the same level if not better throughout the 90 and 120 minutes against DPMM.”
A pivotal moment of the match came when Hafiz Nor was through on goal and was inexplicably brought down by Brunei custodian Wardan Yusof. Referee Sukhbir Singh chose to brandish only a yellow card.
A decision Jorg was not best pleased with. “I think it was a red card for me. He was through and he would have most probably scored the goal with his speed. But it’s the referee’s decision and we have to live with that.”
