The top scorer for last year’s Prime League, Ahmad Khidhir finally got his first senior team appearance in the S-League when he came onto the pitch for Taufiq Ghani in the 83rd minute against Balestier Khalsa. The game ended in a 2-2 draw after the Eagles fought back from being 2-0 down in the first half.
Ahmad Khidhir is still creating waves in this season’s Prime League, having notched ten goals currently which helped peg the team to the top of the table. Tonight, we find out a little bit more about our exciting young marksman.
Love affair with football
I have been playing football since young and my first team was with this team called Bedok Youth Team. In Primary School, there was no opportunity for me to play for my school nor any COE clubs but it was when I was at Siglap Secondary School that my love and passion for football grew strong. Tampines Rovers FC U15 was my first club, followed by the NFA U16. I remained with the NFA until 2012 and joined GIFC. In football, my inspiration is my uncle. He used to play for the National Team B last time so he may not be very popular as compared to the other players in his day. My aim is to surpass my uncle’s achievement in the family.
Defintely striker! I love to score goals and helping my team to win. Last season’s Prime League was the best ever for me. I was the top scorer for the league with 15 goals. I did it without starting many games as I was dubbed a “Super Sub” of the team. The icing on the cake of last season was when I got called up to play for the Prime League Selection Team alongside Nizam who is in the senior team this season. I really hope I get the chance to play in the Selection Team again and I am working hard for it.
Becoming an Eagle
Geylang International FC have quality coaches whom I believe can make me a much better player. Apart from that, my fellow NFA mates, Fuad, Asshiddiq, Wyldan and Hyder, also wanted to be with GIFC and that just made the decision that much more easier for me.
Currently, our prime league team is doing perfectly well and winning our games. We have put ourselves in the top 3 of the table behind league leaders Home United and Balestier Khalsa FC. I have managed to net 10 goals so far this season and I would like to thank everyone in the team for their efforts, contributions and for having faith in me to get the goals. I am still hungry for more goals and I am training hard for upcoming games and hopefully help the team get the points for us to stay on top. We have a strong squad and I believe we can win both the cup and the league this season.
I am looking to pursue my dream of playing in the S-League and I really hope I can get to do so. I got my debut game against Balestier and now I am set to work even harder for more call-ups to the senior side and maybe even get to start one of the few remaining league games. The 2015 SEA Games is also another target for me and it will be a dream come true if I get to make the squad for that Games. I am really working hard to be at the top.
Thoughts on tonight’s game ( Eagles 2-0 Harimau Muda B)
The seniors are in good form recently having being unbeaten in 5 games. I really believe they can win against Harimau Muda B tonight as they have been training really hard for this game to grab the three points. I wish all the best to them. Go Eagles!
A personal message
To my seniors in the S-League squad, I want to thank everyone of you as you all have taught me a lot. I personally want to thank Wahyudi Wahid for always giving me words of encouragement and for always telling me not to give up and to keep working hard. I want to also thank my coaches, V Kanan and Noor Ali for giving me the opportunity to feature in the S-League games and for having faith in me.
Not forgetting my beloved family, thank you Mum and dad for always being there for me at games even though I may not be starting or playing. I will not want to disappoint you both. Finally, a really big Thank You to everyone for believing and having faith in me, and for always being there even when I was at my lowest. To my teammates and friends, thank you for supporting me.
