Geylang United FC 1 – 3 Brunei DPMM F.C

July 23 2012
– At Bedok Stadium hosting Brunei DPMM F.C on the first day of the Muslim Fasting month, the Eagles were overshadowed by a rejuvenated attacking DPMM side who have lost their previous 3 league games prior to this outing. It was also Coach Kanan’s first game in-charge in a month after going away to Japan for a coaching course in June.

Welcoming back towering centre-back Tales Ricarte Dos Santos from suspension, he ultimately proved to be the difference in the first-half. Conceding a corner kick after immense pressure from the visitors, Dos Santos broke free of his marker Shahril Alias and rose above the Eagles’ defence to nod the ball into the far-post to put the visitors 1-0 up.

Though the visitors have majority of theĀ possessionĀ in the first half, chances are few and far between as the midfield has done well to contain DPMM’s attacking play.

After the second half restart, DPMM was set to make a statement. On 50 minutes, attacking midfielder Patrick Da Silva wasted no time in doubling DPMM’s lead by slotting the ball pass Yazid Yasin after a tidy through pass from Basiru Osman.

As happened many times this season, a lack of concentration in the defense has cost the Eagles dear.

The Eagles then barely had time to re-group before the visitors struck again. Barely 2 minutes after the second goal, Patrick Da Silva got his second goal of the game after a simple tap-in from a rebound. Croatian midfielder Ivan Jerkovic did well to direct his stinging shot to the bottom corner which Eagles’ custodian Yazid Yasin could only parry it into the way of Da Silva.

With 10 minutes remaining of the game, Eagles then won themselves a penalty after Michael King was alleged to have been fouled in the penalty box. Stefan Milojevic stepped up and took the resulting penalty kick, slamming into the top right hand corner of Wardun Yussof’s goal.

Coming from another loss, the Eagles are still looking for answers to their league form. But nevertheless, we will not give up!
