Fuad Ramli makes first league appearance

When a Geylang International player changed from his warm-up kit to don the Geylang International kit, many were wondering who exactly the player was. It didn’t help of course that from distance, the player who donned the number 31 kit looked like a young schoolboy, given his small frame.
The player who came on to replace Captain Ridhuan Muhammad in last night’s 0-0 draw with Courts Young Lions was 20 years old attacking midfielder Fuad Ramli. The younger brother of LionsXII’s Faris Ramli, the prime league player put in a good shift, looking confident to receive the ball at his feet and have a go at the more experienced players in the opposition team.
Assistant coach Nazareno Velez who manned the touchline on the night, praised Fuad. He said: “He came in and played a good game. Before he went in, I told him to do play like how he does in the Prime League. He brought it a sense of fresh air tonight.”
Having made his S.League debut last season under V.Kanan, this was the player’s first appearance this season and under head coach Jorg Steinebrunner. When asked about his thoughts on Fuad Ramli’s cameo, the German was impressed with what he saw. He said: “He did well. He showed he was not scared or afraid of the league’s big boys.”
He continued: “It’s always good to give younger players a chances and he deserved it.”
With the impressive cameo, Fuad Ramli will be hoping to strike up more appearances in the S.League. Judging from Jorg Steinebrunner’s comments, he may well get the chance to do so.
He said: “He takes on players, he turns, and he goes towards the goal. He has few games left for us hopefully in the S.League.”
