Eagles soar in LionsXII friendly

7 June 2012 – Yesterday evening at around 7pm, the Eagles senior squad faced LionsXII in a friendly matchup at Geylang field winning 1-0 after striker Rizawan scored late in the second half.
The Eagles played flowing football right from the start and managed to keep possession well through the match. Michael King provided the first attacking threat after sniffing the ball away from the LionsXII centre-back to set himself up for a one-on-one with the keeper. However, the LionsXII keeper did well to parry King’s drive away to prevent Eagles from taking an early lead.
Soon after, LionsXII conjured up an attack of their own after a cross from the left wing found a LionsXII midfielder open just outside the penalty box. However, he could only manage a shot wide of Yazid Yasin’s right post.
Late in the first half, Mun Seung Man was then tripped outside the penalty box after the Eagles have managed several neat passes. Mun then took the resulting free kick himself and was unlucky to slice it inches wide of the post.
The first half was soon over with Eagles having majority of the possession after they’ve implemented their passing game well.
The second half begun with an equally high tempo as the Eagles look like the more dangerous side after multiple crosses from both flanks kept the LionsXII’s defence busy. The Eagles almost drew first blood again when trialist Stefan shot from outside the penalty box which the keeper could only parry. Faizal was the quickest to react to the rebound but he sliced his follow-up wide.
With 15 minutes left in the game, Rizawan was soon brought on by Coach Kannan. He went on to make an immediate impact when he controlled a long ball from the midfield and volleyed brilliantly into the bottom corner of the goal.
Well done Eagles!
