Eagles In Search Of Revenge And Victory Against Cheetahs
By Eagles Admin on 11 March 2015
Geylang International FC would be looking forward to secure their first win of the 20th Great Eastern Yeo’s S.League season in their second home game against the resilient Hougang United FC on 12 March 2015 at the Bedok Stadium.
The Eagles and Cheetahs ended their last season in the lower half of the league’s table but after new additions to the respective squads, few can predict what would be the final outcome of this match as both teams are looking to overturn their fortunes this year.
With last season’s disappointing 4-0 home defeat to the Cheetahs, the Eagles will want to gain redemption of some sort and exact revenge on the visitors this time round.
With that said, Geylang International also cannot take the threat of Hougang United lightly, as Salim Moin’s charges have picked up decently similar 1-1 draws with Courts Young Lions and Home United in their previous fixtures.
Hougang United’s star striker, former Real Madrid ‘C’ player Francisco Salvador Ela would be in search for goals to add to his season’s tally, whilst the ever assiduous Japanese duo, Yuki Uchiyama and Kunihiro Yamashita would be leading the Cheetahs’ back-line at the Eagles’ Nest.
In the Eagles’ camp, captain Josef Kaplan targets a win and believes that his side need to start chalking up wins to send a strong message to the other teams, that the Eagles are indeed the potential surprise package which they were touted at the start of the season.
The Eagles have picked up a convincing point in their season opener against giants, Home United with a 1-1 draw, but unfortunately, slipped to a narrow 2-1 defeat away to Balestier Khalsa last week.
Having also scored both of Geylang’s goals this season, Jozef Kaplan backed his teammates to give more than 100% effort, so that the Eagles can register their first win and three points. Eagles’ jJapaneselethal duo, Tatsuro Inui and Bruno Castanheira would also be a constant threat to Hougang with their set-piece deliveries, and Hougang will do well to be wary of conceding too many corner-kicks or free-kicks.
However, Geylang International would be without their midfield dynamo, Nor Azli as he will be out of action for the next three weeks with a pulled hamstring. Nevertheless, Eagles’ head coach, Jorg Steinebrunner believes and assured the fans that they can see an improved performance and if the Eagles play true to their style, a positive outcome will be theirs to grab against Hougang United, this Thursday.
