10985940_1099885846692576_7806961761993286866_oGeylang International FC will look forward to nothing less than a win in The New Paper (TNP) League Cup 2015 Group A clash, against reigning and three-time League Cup champions, Brunei DPMM at the Jalan Besar Stadium on 02 July 2015.

Geylang and DPMM both have the chance to secure a qualification spot to TNP League Cup 2015 Semi-Finals and condemn the other to the gallows, when they face-off in their third and last group game.

Geylang are currently sitting in first place with four points and are closely followed by second-placed Hougang United whom also have four points, but are lower in goal-difference. The Bruneians are in third with three points, after their stunning 1-0 loss to the Cheetahs and a fantastic 5-0 victory over Singapore Recreation Club (SRC), whom are placed fourth with 2 losses, despite their determined performances.

Last Saturday, Geylang were cruising towards a 2-0 victory against Hougang, but the Cheetahs produced a stunning come-back, as they notched two goals late in the game, to salvage a vital point.

This time round, Geylang would not want to repeat that dreadful slip-up and instead focus on their performance from start till the final whistle, against DPMM. Nevertheless, a draw against the Wasps would still see the Eagles, go through to the final four of the competition, with five points.

However, playing with a defensive tactical enforcement might be risky for the Eagles, as the Wasps will be playing with their guns blazing, because, anything less than three points will diminish their hopes of being the first ever team to win back-to-back League titles.

DPMM’s goal-scoring task will be led by none other than Brazilian target-man, Rafael Ramazotti. The towering 1.94 metres striker, has notched 13 goals this season and will be hungry for more, against the Eagles. Adding on to their offensive threats, would be Former Sporting Lisbon’s youth player, Paulo Sergio. The Portuguese speedster, has an incredible bag of skills and nifty footwork. However, the Eagles’ full-backs Syed Thaha and Yuki Ichikawa will keep an close eye on the winger at all times.

On the other hand, Yazid Yazin, Hafiz Osman and Kento Fukuda are all raring to face the S.League giants. They are well aware of DPMM’s speed and their aerial deliveries into the box. The trio, will be more tenacious in the air and focused on their defensive duties, to avoid any sorts of disappointment.

Geylang’s Head Coach Jorg Steinebrunner is keen to unleash the Eagles’ blitzkrieg against the Bruneians and seek full redemption of their S.League’s 1-0 loss to DPMM at Bedok Stadium, earlier this year.

The remarkable offensive unit of Geylang compromises of Tatsuro Inui, Bruno Castanheira, Hafiz Nor and Jozef Kaplan. The remarkable quartet are confident in putting up a strong display and are more than capable of giving their opponents’ backline real problems.

The Eagles are on a quest as the League Cup is the only domestic  trophy they have never lifted since it began in 2007. The Eagles came close to the coveted trophy back in 2012, but they ended up, only with a runner-ups finish.

The Eagles need a victory in their last Group A fixture, to keep their title hopes alive and secure qualification to the Semi-Finals.

This pulsating fixture is certainly an a match not to be missed, by the ardent fans and zealous supporters all around Singapore as both teams will be gunning for a win whilst wearing their hearts on their sleeves.
