Geylang International FC defender, Kento Fukuda was named in the ‘Singapore Selection’ finalized squad that will be participating and facing the likes of Stoke City FC, Everton FC and Arsenal FC in the Barclays Asia Trophy in July 2015.
The ‘Singapore Selection’ squad of 23 players which was selected by Head Coach V.Sundramoorthy, comprises of 19 National Team players, alongside four foreign players from the S.League.
Besides Kento, Sirina Camara (Home United FC), Nicholas Velez (Warriors FC), and Rodrigo Tosi (Tampines Rovers FC), were also handpicked by the ‘Dazzler’ as he believes the quartet are among the best performers in the S.League this season and will certainly add skills and steel to the team.
“I am very privileged and excited to play against the best players in the world,” Kento said. “It will indeed be a memorable week and I look forward to the trainings, the game and representing Geylang International FC for the ‘Singapore Selection’ team.”
Kento has been one of the five players in the Eagles to appear in all 16 competitive matches for Geylang this season. The 25-year-old central defender has been displaying consistent performances throughout the first-half of the season and has been playing a pivotal role in anchoring the Eagles’ defence with his partner, Hafiz Osman.
The Japanese defender, first came to Singapore to play in the 2013 S.League season with Albirex Niigata (S) FC, and made 32 appearances and scored 1 goal in all competitions for the White Swans. In December 2013, Kento, along with team-mate – Yuki Ichikawa, signed for Geylang International for the 2014 season, till present.
Kento would be keen to emulate his football idol, Gerard Pique in the opening match against Arsenal FC on 15th July, at the National Stadium, Singapore Sports Hub. The 3rd/4th placing match and the Grand Final will be played on 18th July, at the same venue.
“Winning will be everything, but I want to enjoy with the ‘Singapore Selection’ team-mates, yet pit myself against the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Santi Carzola, Theo Walcott and Oliver Giroud,” Kento said. “I want to learn and improve by defending against world class opponents as I will never know where I stand, unless I try.”
We, Geylang International wish our beloved, Kento Fukuda All The Best & Good Luck in his Barclays Asia Trophy 2015 journey and really hope he gets to swap jerseys with his favourite Arsenal striker, Oliver Giroud after the final whistle.
