Determined Eagles Prepared For Warriors Clash
By Eagles Admin on 29 April 2015
Geylang International FC will welcome reigning Great Eastern Yeo’s S.League champions, Warriors FC to the Bedok Stadium on 02 May 2015. Both the Eagles and the Warriors will be in search for a vital win in bid to return to their winning ways, after last week’s disappointing defeats to Harimau Muda and Brunei DPMM respectively.
Last season’s encounters concluded in favour of the Warriors whom clipped the Eagles’ wings on both occasions with a 2-1 and 1-0 victory at Choa Chu Kang Stadium and Bedok Stadium respectively, in 2014.
This time round, the Eagles would be up against a weary Warriors side whom will be returning from Indonesia after their AFC Cup 2015 Group Stage fixture with Persipura Jayapura on the 28 April 2015. Alongside, the added home-ground advantage, Geylang would be looking to claim the scalp of the uniformed giants, Warriors FC once again after their last feat dated back to October 2013, in a 3-0 triumph.
Defending champions, Warriors will be looking to maintain their lead at the top of the table with a much-needed victory, despite playing two more games than the only undefeated side, Brunei DPMM. On the other hand, eight-placed, Eagles will desperately need to add three points to their current tally of five points, to keep up with the mid-table teams whom are starting to drift away with at least 10 points from seven games.
However, the Rhinos will face an uphill task in finding the back of the net at Bedok Stadium as their prized striker and team’s top goal scorer, Nicholas Velez will be serving his suspension after being sent-off for an off-the-ball incident against DPMM, last week.
Nevertheless, without the 2014 Yeo’s Young Player of the Year, Velez; the Warriors will have another added dimension to spearhead the attack, as they turn their attention towards their deadline day signing, Fazrul Nawaz . The hardworking hotshot striker, has scored five times in five games and would be in quest for more goals against the Eagles. As for Geylang International, there is no lack of talent in the club and the Eagles have been touted as the, ‘dark-horse’ team for this season. However, they have not been able to get their rhythm right, with things being ill-fated at the back and adverse in the final third from the start of the season. The club’s main woe is their inability to score, with captain Jozef Kaplan netting only four times alongside a goal contribution each by Yuki Ichikawa and Bruno Cashtanheira in their past seven fixtures.
Nevertheless, one should never doubt the likes of Jorg Steinbrunner’s vast experience and the resilient Eagles’ performance as they would be eager to bounce back from their astonishing defeat to Harimau Muda and acquire a surprising result against the nine-time S.League champions, Warriors FC.
A tough battle in midfield is expected, as Warriors midfielders, Kevin McCann and Emmeric Ong would be looking to continue their box-to-box running antics, while the Eagles’ partnership of Khairulnizam Jumahat and Nor Azli Yusoff would be trying to put a halt to it.
Another demanding clash is anticipated as Miroslav Pejic and Hafiz Rahim from the Warriors will be giving a tough time to Eagles’ wing-backs Anaz Hadee and Yuki Ichikawa, while Geylang’s Bruno Castanheira and Hafiz Nor are ready to speed through the flanks like lightning-like darts to assist Kaplan in attack.
Geylang International will have to face the Rhinos without the likes of Sevki Sha’ban and Mustaqim Manzur whom will be dearly missed due to their knee injuries.
Geylang’s rock in the back, Hafiz Osman says that the Eagles are prepared and ever ready for this fixture, “I am confident that we (Geylang International) will play together as one unit and stay focused throughout the game as per our Coach’s instructions to clinch a much desirable win”.
It will be interesting to see if Geylang can put up another show of giant-killing once again, as they did against Tampines Rovers weeks ago when they won 3-2 at Jalan Besar Stadium.
There is no room for error in this match and the game should be a cagey affair with the outcome dependent on which team, wants the three points more.
