Community Outreach: South East CDC 3M Step-Up Challenge
By Eagles Admin on 30 August 2013
Geylang International FC’s commitment to community outreach came to the fore again yesterday as staff and players from the club participated in 3M Step-Up Challenge football clinic for around 40 students of Bedok Green Primary School.
The primary school kids, who were from both the school’s football and rugby CCAs, were treated to appearances by Captain Jozef Kaplan, Stefan Milojevic, Norihiro Kawakami, Joey Sim, Shotaro Ihata and Takuma Ito.
Coaches from the Eagles’ COE team were also present alongside Head Coach Vedhamuthu Kanan and Assistant Coach/Player Noor Ali.
The event was graced by South East CDC Mayor, Dr Maliki Osman, who came sportingly decked in 3M’s event tee-shirt. After a short speech, Dr Maliki distributed free 3M stationery sets to the students in a gesture of goodwill thanks in a huge part to 3M’s magnificent commitment to community services within South East CDC.
The students were then separated into five groups, each group helmed by the a coach and one of the stars from the football team. It was apparent the children were awed by the presence of the players and enjoyed the occasion immensely. It was definitely one to brag to their friends about.
The joy on the faces of everyone involved, from the players, the students and right down to the teachers made for a very heart-warming scene on a sunny Thursday afternoon.
Captain Jozef Kaplan had this to say about the event;
“Me and the guys, we are very happy to be involved in this program. More than just about fun, this event was also about children and I feel that we get to teach something to the children so it is very good. Firstly, this event was fun for everyone and secondly it was also about football so I am very happy to be a part of this.”
