January 21, 2013 – Last friday evening, Geylang International Football Club officially launched the Singapore Management Univerisity – Bedok View Secondary School mentorship programme! Bedok View Secondary School has been very gracious to host us at their premises and there was even a humble reception for all of us!
The Mentorship Programme will see undergradates from Singapore Management University mentor 36 students from Bedok View Secondary School. During the year-long programme, GIFC’s players and coaches will act as facilitators and track the development of each and every student to ensure that significant progress is being made.
A former national footballer and now the Chairman of the GIFC, Mr Leong Kok Fann, gave the Bedok Students an inspiring speech about a man who’s humble background didn’t deter his determination to succeed as a person.
The event, also saw the Bedok View Secondary School students introduced to the Singapore Management University undergraduates. Several players from the S-League team, including new signings Shotaro Ihata, Norihiro Kawakami, Ito Takuma and Joey Sim was also present to mingle with the students!
Last but not least, the club will like to thank both Singapore Management University and Bedok View Secondary School for making this collaboration possible!
