Aliff Shafaein helps Geylang International to a win over his former side

Much of the pre match hype surrounded Tampines Rovers’ new signing, Jozef Kaplan. The question of whether the former Geylang International captain would come back to haunt the Eagles was one most fans would have had on their minds.
Ultimately, it was another former player that helped his team prevail over his former side. Aliff Shafaein, a former Stag, was in brilliant form as he turned in another tidy performance behind Leonel Felice in attack.
After the match, EAGLES TV caught up with Aliff to gather his thoughts on the win against the Tampines Rovers. The player felt the win was a combined effort as he said: “Credit to all, from the players to the officials, the substitutes who went in and even those who didn’t go in. They all played the part.”
Aliff also lauded his former side as he continued: “Credit to them, they are a good team but it was good for us that we won.”
Looking ahead, the former Singapore international was optimistic of the Eagles climbing the table, saying, “Hopefully we can finish in the top six. But the main thing is still our cup game.”
With Geylang now having to face Balestier Khalsa in the quarter final of the Singapore Cup, there remains a possibility of facing the Stags in the latter stages.
When asked if the win on the night boosts the Eagles’ chances in the cup, Aliff was pragmatic. He said: “Yes, of course but we should not be overconfident. We will take one game at a time.”
