5 Questions in 5 Minutes with Eagles’ Passionate Midfielder Mustaqim Manzur

Question 1 –

It was a sensational performance to defeat the reigning League Cup champions, Brunei DPMM to advance to the competition’s Semi-Finals. This is also the Eagles’ first-ever win against the Wasps in 12 competitive matches. Your thoughts about the game and how is the morale of the Eagles currently ?

Ans: Definitely, it was a morale boosting victory against a prominent and well oiled side like, Brunei DPMM. Head Coach, Jorg Steinebrunner had a game plan devised and credit to the players for digging deep and sticking to the game plan throughout the span of 90 minutes.

Question 2 –

The Eagles will now face Albirex Niigata (S) FC in The New Paper League Cup 2015 Semi-Finals. How is the team preparing and gearing up for the clash against the White Swans ?

Ans: Honestly, we have to put the high of the superb win aside, and get our legs ready for the next big clash, against another well organised side, Albirex. Games are coming at a very quick rate, but I am confident that, we can deliver another high levelled performance once again, this Sunday to get that elusive victory. Staying focused with utmost concentration, will be the key in this fixture against the Japanese outfit.

Question 3 –

Geylang International is the only team that has scored 10 goals in the group stages of The New Paper League Cup 2015. What do you think about this proud achievement and how will the Eagles’ strike force deal with the White Swans’ steadfast defence which has only allowed eight goals in 12 S.League matches and is currently, the only team which has a perfect clean sheet record in the League Cup this year ?

Ans: We, Geylang International are the highest scoring team and we are playing against the most stubborn defence, Albirex? Juicy. Nevertheless, with Bruno Castanheira, Jozef Kaplan and Hafiz Nor in red hot form, I am quietly confident that, we can worry them and strive for a possible favourable result.

Question 4 –

Earlier this year, Albirex defeated the Eagles, 1-0 at Jurong East Stadium in an S.League match. However, last year Geylang trounced the White Swans 3-1 in the 2014 League Cup Quarter-Finals. How has the journey been, as an Eagle and do you think we can replicate the success this year and reach the Grand Finals ?

Ans: In The New Paper League Cup 2015, one-off matches like these, should inspire us to produce the goods when it matters the most. With Hafiz Osman and Kento Fukuda marshalling the defence, Nor Azli biting at the opponents’ heels just in the middle of the park, and with the awesome attacking quartet which is currently on form, anything can happen in the game of football. Certainly, a win on Sunday is never impossible.

Question 5 –

Any words to the dedicated Eagles’ Fans/Supporters and Eagles’ Ultras whom will be tuning in to our news feeds or even making their way to rally on their favourite team, GEYLANG INTERNATIONAL ?

Ans: I would like to say a big THANK YOU, to all fans, supporters, friends and family members whom are constantly behind us for all our games. Your voice in the stands are like fuel for our battered bodies. Even when the going gets tough, we will fight till the very end as we know you guys are always cheering us on. The team is truly grateful of the undying support given to us. I know that there are two factions of fans supporting us. I sincerely hope that both groups will be able to band together and form an even greater voice to sap the confidence out of our opponents.

Thank you & GeylangBoleh!
