5 Questions in 5 Minutes with Eagles’ General Manager Andrew Ang

Question 1 –

Your feelings about the defeat to Hougang United last week and how has the team better prepared themselves for this RHB Singapore Cup fixture ?

Ans: The loss to Hougang United was a definite wakeup call to all the players. The Eagles need to be more consistent in their work rate and confidence level when playing their opponents. We were on a roll before the loss, beating Warriors FC, Home United and getting a last gasp equaliser against Balestier Khalsa. Hence, it all boils down to the boys believing in themselves and they do have what it takes to beat any team in the S.League or RHB Cup, this season.

Question 2 –

Your thoughts about facing the 2014 Lao FF Cup champions, Lao Police FC in the ‘Preliminary Round’ ?

Ans: I believe that the players are prepared mentally for a tough game and will not be giving anything away. I have seen in the training sessions that Coach Jorg is not taking the match lightly and he is making sure that the mistakes in the Hougang match, are rectified and not repeated at all costs.

Question 3 –

The past few editions of the RHB Singapore Cup, has certainly staged many surprises and upsets to various teams. In 2014, Geylang International bowed out in the Quarter-Finals. How far do you think the Eagles can soar this time round ?

Ans: Looking at the overall RHB Singapore Cup draw this year, it seems that our team has a good prospect of advancing further, but then again, in cup matches, there is always the element of surprise. A strong or an ‘underdog’ team should never be underestimated as each and every team will go all out throughout the game to clinch a victory.

Question 4 –

Many supporters believe that the route to the RHB Singapore Cup Championship would be easier for the Eagles this year, as the local powerhouse teams are drawn amongst themselves in their respective Quarter-Finals bracket and can only meet Geylang in the Grand Finals. Do you agree ?

Ans: Yes and No, to some extent. Yes, because on paper we do stand a good chance to progress all the way to the Grand Finals and the draw is indeed a favourable one. However, we cannot discount any team we meet, starting with the opening and crucial match against, Lao Police FC.

Question 5 –

Any words to the dedicated Eagles’ Fans and Eagles’ Ultras whom will be tuning in to our news feeds or even making their way to Bedok Stadium ?

Ans: The fans/supporters, Ultra Eagles, Pertapis, Willing Hearts, APSN and players’ family members have always been a constant source of encouragement and inspiration to the players. Personally, I look forward to each match as it gives me full satisfaction to hear the chants, cheers and singing from the fans/supporters! We are like one BIG family sharing the ups and downs of the Eagles’ performances and in time to come, we will soar to greater heights. GeylangBoleh!
